Sandhills

Sandhills B19 - Grid reference SP067893

This self-explanatory topographical name was given to the area around Alma Street in Aston close to Lozells. Much of the sand was used locally for making mortar for the building of Aston New Town from the 1850s. The name is recalled now only in the modern street name, Sandhill Farm Close.
