Greenbank/ Green Bank

B28 - Grid reference SP103825

Greenbank is shown on early Ordnance Survey maps located on the Stratford Road at its junction with Reddings Lane. It is at the top of the hill ascending from the crossing of the River Cole. A bank implies a steep slope at the side of a river or road: does this topographical name suggest perhaps a holloway? A nearby streetname, Greenbank Avenue, now recalls the location.
