Cottesbrook

B27 - Grid reference SP126838

A medieval 'cottage by the brook' ie. Westley Brook, is recalled in a streetname. The origin of the name here is unknown. Cottesbrooke is a village in Northamptonshire, and the name here may be imported and derive from the house name.

Cottesbrook School opened on Yardley Road in 1968 and was so oversubscribed that the Baptist church hall was also used as accommodation. This building is now Cottesbrook Infant School. Two Victorian houses opposite Florence Road were demolished to make way for a new school to be built. This became a separate institution, Cottesbrook Junior School.
